Helen Bond Carruthers Ivory Cashmere Sweater with Peacock and Florals Embroidered Appliques circa 1950s
It's a Helen Bond Carruthers!
1950s ivory cashmere button front cardigan sweater with embroidered hand-sewn appliques by Helen Bond Carruthers. Highly sought after and collectible, this one is done in an ivory cashmere with incredible pieces of antique textiles hand applied- brightly colored florals, leaves, birds and a large peacock on the back.
She's got all the bells and whistles a sweater hand created by Helen had in the 50s- cashmere (of course), shortened length with wide grosgrain ribbon band around inside, shortened sleeves tacked up inside, silk lining. The antique textile pieces are hand sewn front, back and cuffs-silk covered round buttons, placket backed with grosgrain ribbon. This particular sweater was made by Hadley.
Missing one button second to bottom, some wear to some of the silk on the appliques as shown....and missing the Helen Bond Carruthers label, sadly. That said, every box is ticked for a real HBC as noted above. I have no doubt that it is one.
This is one of several cashmere sweaters from the Marilyn's Room collection- an array of gorgeous vintage things collected by one very chic woman over the last 30+ years.
